On January 10, 2003 The Salt Lake Tribune reported that "a prominent religious scholar and seminary president is taking the Bush administration and the wider U.S. religious community to task on the issue of civil liberties since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks... 'One searches in vain for substantive public responses to the issues of internal security and civil liberties on the part of the many religious communities in North America,' writes Heidi Hadsell, president of Hartford Seminary, in an essay contained in a recently published book [Religious Perspectives on the Causes and Consequences],one of the first anthologies about Sept. 11, 2001, and its aftermath written by religious scholars."
