On July 10, 2005 Agence France-Presse reported, "Saudi Arabia's appointed consultative council joined government and religious leaders in condemning this week's London bombings and stressing that acts of terror should not be attributed to Islam.

The 150-member Shura Council said it 'strongly condemns these vicious bombings and all criminal acts which are aimed at spreading death and destruction and terrorizing peaceable people.'

The all-male body also 'denounced any attempt, by any side, to attribute these aggressive acts to Islam, a religion of justice, compassion and peace... which prohibits' such atrocities, in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

Saudi leaders have strongly denounced Thursday's attacks against underground trains and a bus in the British capital which killed some 50 people and wounded around 700.

Saudi Arabia's top cleric said Islam strictly prohibits the killing of innocent people."
