A land dispute triggered rioting between Hindus and Muslims in western India on Wednesday which killed at least one person, police said.

An attempt by both Hindus and Muslims to illegally build homes on a piece of government land in Fatehgarh, a village 415 miles (670 kilometers) west of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state, led to the clashes, said R.L. Meena, the government administrator.

A Muslim man was run over by a vehicle driven by a Hindu and was killed, said Vishnu Kant, the superintendent of police.
