On September 6, 2002 the Sun-Sentinel reported that "Since Sept. 11, harassment of Muslims and Arabs has contributed to an increase in reported hate crimes in Florida and spawned the addition of new categories for workplace discrimination. In the past year, the Council on American-Islamic Relations has documented more than 1,700 anti-Muslim incidents, 82 of them in Florida."
