On March 16, 2003 The Omaha World-Herald reported that "hundreds of people marched in Omaha Saturday chanting, 'Drop Bush, not bombs...' The march through downtown Omaha was part of a 11/2-hour rally staged by the Act to Stop War Coalition, a loosely knit group of local people opposed to a U.S. invasion of Iraq... On Saturday, exhortations against war came from such speakers as former U.S. Rep. John Cavanaugh; the Rev. Damian Zuerlein of Our Lady of Guadulupe Catholic Church; Rabbi Craig Marantz of Temple Israel; Ibrahim Patuszak, president of the Islamic Community Center; and Charles Parks of the Coalition Against Injustice... Among the marchers were Muslims, members of Nebraskans for Peace, a vocal band of youthful anarchists and 40 people - several of them gray-haired women - who had earlier marched in a St. Patrick's Day Parade as 'Catholics for Peace...' A Buddhist abbot carried an American flag. A Catholic priest marched in traditional black clothes and Roman collar. A handful of people wore the scarves that have become symbolic of solidarity with Palestine... An organizer, Steve Thyberg, said coalition members have differing opinions but share a mission to oppose war in Iraq through education, advocacy and nonviolent action."
