On February 16, 2003 The Express-Times reported that "the group of young and old from diverse backgrounds, lead by the Lehigh Valley Peace Coalition, chartered four buses for Manhattan's Upper East Side, where they planned to meet with other groups from the Northeastern United States... The wide-ranging protest was set to kick off Saturday in about 600 cities worldwide, said Mohamed Bugaighis, one of the Lehigh Valley organizers. Protests in Australia, Asia, Russia and Europe were already under way at 9 a.m. as the Lehigh Valley group left the Westgate Shopping Center in Bethlehem... Anti-war rallies were took place in Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Miami and Seattle... In New York, South Africa's Bishop Desmond Tutu spoke to protesters from a church across the street from the United Nations."
