On September 2, 2002 The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Sunday's session at the Islamic Society of North America's convention, "entitled '9/11 and American Muslims: Changes Within Us,' [which] attracted thousands of Muslims into the main hall of the Washington Convention Center. One of the lessons of Sept. 11 was that mosques that had already engaged in dialogue with other faiths fared much better in the aftermath of the attacks..., said Faroque Khan, a medical-school professor and leader at the Islamic Center of Long Island."
