The ice cream shops were open all night when Nimet Alpay and her children visited her native home of Turkey during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.In a country that’s more than 99 percent Muslim, breaking each day’s fast at sundown is a community event. Families flock to parks, passengers on subway cars share whatever they have to eat with strangers, and ice cream and coffee shops are open at night.
