On September 22, 2002 The Seattle Times reported that "about 1,000 people from the local Muslim, Arab, Sikh, Cambodian, Somali and other communities attended the forum, organized by the nonprofit Hate Free Zone Campaign of Washington. The goal: to let attending officials know that 'the impacts of Sept. 11 policies have been disproportionately received by immigrant communities,' said Pramila Jayapal, founder and director of the campaign. Many of the officials responded by saying that better communication between the government and local communities was needed."
