Pope's Apology - U.S. Response

On March 13, 2000, the Daily News of New York reported the reactions of several Holocaust survivors to the Papal apology. Saul Klausner, who lost dozens of family members in the Holocaust, stated: "What he did is noble. It's an acknowledgment...But he left out an important segment." Nellie Schreiber of Brooklyn, NY whose parents and 13 siblings died in Polish concentration camps, stated: "He should have apologized a long time ago...But the apology is accepted. It is never too late." Schreiber continued: "It makes me feel better...Maybe the anti-Semitism is not going to be so big now."
