On July 6, 2004 The San Francisco Chronicle reported, "According to a Time magazine poll conducted in June, 59 percent of Americans who call themselves 'very religious' support President Bush, compared with just 35 percent for Democrat challenger John Kerry. Those who say they are 'not religious' favor Kerry by a margin of 69 percent to 22 percent... Another poll sponsored by the PBS television program 'Religion and Ethics News Weekly' conducted March 16 to April 4 looked at church attendance. Those who said they attended church weekly favored Bush over Kerry by 60 percent to 38 percent. But those who said they went less than weekly supported Kerry over Bush, 54 percent to 43 percent. That poll claimed a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The Time poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points."
