On January 2, 2005 the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported, "When he learned about a service for tsunami victims and survivors Saturday at Sri Venkateswara Temple in Penn Hills, Sanjay Jambekhar decided to make the trip from Cleveland. 'I've always wanted to visit, and I thought today would be a good day,' Jambekhar said. 'So many of my friends have family in India and Sri Lanka that they can't locate. Someone must pray for these poor souls.' Many stayed to hear chants and prayers for the tsunami victims after the Hindu temple held its traditional New Year's Day services. 'Many of those who died in the killer waves were women and children,' temple board chairman Nagaraja Rao told the worshippers. 'We are directing our prayers to the survivors, in a message of hope.'"
