On May 22, 2005 Philippine News reported, "The Philippines seeks to promote the important role of religions in the quest for world peace with the holding at the United Nations next month of a tripartite conference on interfaith cooperation, the Philippine Mission to the U.N. said. Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo launched the Philippine-initiated 'Tripartite Conference on Interfaith Cooperation for Peace' at the U.N. headquarters last week. Romulo will be chairing a similar but larger conference here on June 22. 'The conference is a Philippine initiative that seeks to promote dialogue among governments, faith-based organizations and civil society and the U.N. system in achieving international peace and security,' Ambassador Lauro L. Baja Jr., Permanent Representative to the U.N., said. The conference comes on the heels of a landmark resolution promoting interfaith dialogue that the Philippines successfully steered during the 59th U.N. General Assembly in November last year."
