On April 22, 2006 The Star reported, "Vasakhi fell on April 14 but the celebration continued onto the following day in Penang with an open house held at Fort Cornwallis which was attended by about 3,000 people, including tourists. Although it rained until about 8pm, this did not dampen the spirit of the guests as most of them came prepared with umbrellas for the five-hour event which started at 5pm. Themed 'Understand Other Races is the Key to Peaceful World', the open house was jointly organised by Penang Tourism Action Council and Penang branch of the Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia for the fourth consecutive year. A Sikh museum, the first in Penang, was opened at the fort during the event by the council's committee member Looi Swee Cheang. Among others, the museum showcases Sikh dolls, weapons, colourful embroidered cushions, blankets and the history of Sikhs in Malaya, their heritage and culture. Looi said the Sikhs had contributed greatly to the country although their numbers were small."
