On March 27, 2004 The Houston Chronicle reported, "For the Hindu community of Sri Meenakshi Temple in Pearland, a regularly scheduled maintenance is also an opportunity for religious ritual and spiritual tune-up. The community embarks Thursday on a four-day festival that is part housekeeping and part spiritual renewal. During the course of the event, Maha Kumbhabhisekham, the deities of the temple will be repaired, cleansed and reconsecrated. The ceremony reaches its high point Sunday morning with an ablution of the temple's deities, especially its three main representations of the divine: Meenakshi, Shiva and Vishnu."
