Christopher Bragdon’s life has not only been threatened, but his life has intersected with a diverse array of people as his organization not only pursues rebuilding, but reconciliation between faith groups.
He spends most of his time in Tuzla as the volunteer director of Bosnian Initiatives for Local Development (BILD), a non-profit aimed at rebuilding Bosnia, and a few months of the year in Ithaca.
He reaches out to people some camps might consider enemies.
“I’m not the kind of person who sings to the choir,” he said. “I go to the opposite side and find the reasonable people and see how we can work together.”
He describes himself as a liberal Democrat, volunteered last week on Michael Acuri’s Congressional campaign, and even ended up meeting Bill Clinton at the airport in Utica and was happy have a conversation and thanked the former president for getting peacekeepers into Bosnia. He said he has the highest regard for the American military people.
“Our soldiers are doing good things,” he said. “I will speak highly of the U.S. military. They have been angels of peace in Bosnia.”
