The local Sikh community of Oxford has been left distressed over a recent ruling by the city council which bars them from congregating at a private residence in Marston. The private residence turned Gurdwara, or a place of worship, is being used by over forty Sikh families for the past three years for congregational purposes.

According to the ruling passed by the Oxford City Council, the Sikh Community will need to find another place to congregate. The ruling was passed in relation to a plea filed to officially change the status of the private residence to a Gurdwara. In addition, the owner of the residence has been asked to demolish a portion of the residence which they termed as illegal.

Local Sikh families have been left in a shock after they were asked to comply with the council’s ruling within six months.
