On June 20, 2003 the Sebastian Sun reported that "born to Sikh parents at an ashram in Miami, Saraswati Rose was exposed to meditation, yoga and the spiritual quest at a young age. Her parents met at the Miami religious community and were attracted to the Sikh faith — a religion from India — because of its focus on discipline... Dietary preferences aside, Rose, 29, led a pretty average life in Orlando. She attended public school and got a degree in cosmetology from Orlando Tech in 1994... 'I was living with my boyfriend, partying, working... doing the normal stuff. But when I was about 23, I started feeling a yearning to return to spiritual practices. I began meditating and studying. Then my dad heard about Ma (Jaya Bhagavati) and we came to visit Kashi Ashram. It was a perfect fit...' Rose moved to the ashram in May 2002."
