On April 26, 2004 The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported, "Ray Mickol will not be converting to Islam anytime soon, but the Catholic West Sider and his family left Sunday's open house at the Cleveland Islamic Center's Grand Mosque with two large plates of Middle Eastern delicacies and smiles that could not have been bigger. Mickol, his daughter and a nephew were among about 200 people who attended the open house at the state's largest mosque, on West 130th Street in Parma... The mosque has thrown open its doors to the community annually for 10 years. Yesterday's celebration, however, was the first since federal agents arrested its leader, Imam Fawaz Damra, at his Strongsville home for lying on an immigration form about ties to groups linked to terrorism, a charge he adamantly denies. Zahid Siddiqi, secretary of the mosque and a retired Ford Motor Co. supervisor, said the gathering has become even more important since the terrorist attacks in 2001 because some people fear Muslims."
