On October 12, 2005 Vocento/VMT reported, "The Vice Advisor of Tourism, Javier Mateo, announced that a 'Route of Temples' will be created in Melilla, a Spanish enclave in North Africa of just 20 square kilometers and 69,000 people. It will connect the temples of the four traditional cultures of the city, the mosques, synagogues, churches and the Hindu temple, to promote a new element of cultural tourism. Projects already exist to rehabilitate the holy places of the four religions. Thus, when Ramadan is finalized, the rehabilitation of the facade of the Central Mosque will be undertaken. The facade and interior of the main synagogue will also be rehabilitated. Plans to reconstruct the Hindu temple have been elaborated also since this is the one that is in the worst condition. Once all the temples have been renewed the Tourism department will sign an agreement with the different religious groups. Then a pertinent definitive explanatory pamphlet will be made and the new product will be supplied to the different tour operators that promote the city."
