Normalcy is gradually returning in the violence-torn areas of Kapilvastu district, two weeks after the riots and communal violence.

Movement across areas that witnessed bloodletting in the recent past has increased, while families that had been displaced to villages in India have started to return to their own villages.

Although most of the displaced families don't have houses to live in now, they are visiting their wrecked homes to take stock of the damage.

The local administration and businessmen are visiting the damaged sites in Chandrauta of Birpura, Krishnanagar bazaar, Ganeshpur, Khurhuriya, Manpur, Bishanpur, Pathhardaiya, Jawabhari, Bahadurgunj, Shivapur and Shivagadhi to take stock of the damage.

On 16 Sept, riots erupted in different villages around Birpura VDC shortly after unidentified gunmen murdered chairman of Democratic Madhesi Morcha Mohid Khan. According to victims, settlements densely populated with people if hill origin the were intentionally targeted on the first day of attacks on Sunday, while Muslim settlements were deliberately targeted the next day.
