On December 4, 2003 The West Australian reported, "Non-Christian religious leaders yesterday joined the outcry over moves to play down Christmas celebrations in State schools, saying they had no problem with Nativity plays and carols. Representatives of the Muslim, Buddhist and Jewish communities in Perth said Christian festivities should be celebrated alongside those of other religions. They said they did not mind their children going to schools that celebrated Christmas as long as they could choose whether to join in."
