On August 11, 2005 Chico Enterprise Record reported, "A death threat made against an outspoken Muslim writer has been linked to Chico. Asra Nomani, who challenges what she calls Islamic discrimination against women, got a phone message in May from a man who said unless she 'shut up,' he'd slaughter her like an animal. The call was traced and linked to someone in Chico, she said. So far, a police investigation hasn't turned up anything very useful, said Chico FBI agent Richard Davidson... Nomani mentioned the threat when she appeared last Thursday on the PBS program 'The NewsHour' with Jim Lehrer. She said she'd received three death threats: from Chico, Seattle and Pennsylvania State University."
