Nigeria: Lagos House to Hold Public Hearing On Traditional Religion

A public hearing on the African Traditional Religion of Nigeria (ATREN) by the Lagos House of Assembly is to be held to determine whether to declare a public holiday known as Isese Day for traditional religion worshipper in Lagos State.

This was disclosed by the Speaker Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, sequel to the Honorable members disposition toward the request of traditionalist at plenary session held on Monday.

According to the report of the committee on chieftaincy affairs which was presented to the House by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abayomi Sodique , August 20th of every year was recommended to be declared a public holiday to celebrate Isese Day as a fair deal for the traditional worshippers.

The report says since Muslims and Christians enjoy public holidays, traditional worshippers also deserve public holidays.
