MOROCCAN GOVERNMENT AIMS AT STEPPING UP NATIONAL SECURITY BY BANNING THE FULL VEIL; HIJABS STILL ALLOWED. The government of Morocco has taken its fight against Islamic extremism to a new height by banning the full veil all across the country. So far, no formal rule has been there forcing women to wear the full veil. Muslim women in Morocco have only been wearing the hijab without covering their faces. However, the full veil has been followed by women in more conservative regions of the African country.

Does “Religious Freedom” Deserve Scare Quotes? | Religion Dispatches

As a seasoned editor and journalist who spent her career reporting on marginalized communities, I’m generally wary about the use of so-called scare quotes in writing intended for a broad audience. Placing a legitimate phrase or concept in quotes is the textual equivalent of adding air quotes and rolling one’s eyes—like when we talk about Donald Trump’s support for so-called traditional marriage. (He’s such a proponent of the Biblical definition of marriage he’s been married three times, after all!)
