New York Mayor Participates in Sikh Parade

On April 22, 2003 Indo-Asian News Service reported that "over 10,000 people participated at a Sikh parade here that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said recognised the contributions of the community... Bloomberg, in a proclamation, declared the 16th Annual Sikh Parade Day here to 'recognise the contributions of the Sikh Community to our city...' The event was organised by the Sikh Cultural Society of Richmond Hill, Queens, with the help of gurdwaras... Among those present at the parade were Randy A. Daniels, secretary of state for New York who represented Governor George E. Pataki; Mathew W. Daus, commissioner of New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission who represented Bloomberg; Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin; and Councilmen Gary Hudes and John Liu."
