On June 8, 2005 the Associated Press reported, "A number of Vermont religious groups are planning to work together on social issues such as health care and affordable housing. The Vermont Interfaith Action group, now made up of religious leaders from the Chittenden County area, hopes to expand statewide. More than 900 people gathered in Burlington on Sunday for the group's inaugural convention. Participants sang, prayed and talked about a lack of universal health insurance, too little housing that meets affordability standards, and opportunities to engage Vermont's youths. 'We're looking at building a very powerful, sustainable organization over time, and to do that we've got to engage people on a deep level,' said Jennifer Berman, Vermont Interfaith Action's director. Interfaith leaders established the group about four years ago and hired Berman in June 2004. She and a quarter-time assistant are the only staff members."
