Doncaster's newest landmark is open - and it brings a flavour of the east to the town centre.

Hundreds of Sikhs gathered to mark the opening of their new temple building, the Sri Guru Kalgidhar Gurdwara, on Catherine Street.

The building, complete with an Asian-style dome, is now open to their community after building work on the site was finished.

The opening ceremony was marked with the release of balloons and the cutting of a ribbon in a ceremony carried out by the oldest member and longest serving president of the Sikh temple, Swaran Singh Landa.

The current president, Karam Singh Landa, described the new temple as a great achievement and praised the camaraderie and hard work the whole Sikh Community had shown to develop the building.
