On November 7, 2002 The Times-Picayune reported that "local Sikhs, who established a society in the New Orleans area in 1979, are... reaching out to other religions to promote unity and acceptance. The local Sikh temple, the Gurdwara Sahib of New Orleans, is participating in the nationwide campaign, 'Sharing Your Faith With Your Neighbors,' Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at its temple. Sunday's program will include Sikh hymns, an introduction and overview of the Sikh religion, formal prayers and a community meeting. A community vegetarian meal, or langar, will be served at the program's end."
