On June 3, 2004 The Boston Globe reported, "An Islamic school is expected to open next school year in the Boston area, but not in Medford, one of the sites that had been considered for the school. The Muslim American Society, which had proposed converting the former Hervey School in Medford into a pre-kindergarten through Grade 6 school, has leased a two-floor office building on Prospect Street in Cambridge and hopes to start with preschool and kindergarten programs this fall...The new school will be called Al-Bustan, which means ''the garden" in Arabic, and would become the ninth private school for Muslim children in the state. In Greater Boston, it would be the second, after the Boston Islamic School in Roxbury. Northwest of Boston, the closest other school is the Islamic Academy for Peace in Methuen."
