On January 17, 2004 the Tennessean reported that Masjid Al-Islam, a Nashville mosque formerly belonging to the Nation of Islam, "has recently moved from its location on Clifton Avenue to a much larger worship space on Buena Vista Pike in Bordeaux. The congregation has more than 100 members, mostly African-American, although Muslims of many ethnic backgrounds attend... The Islamic Center is working on building a new school and worship center in west Nashville near Bellevue. The first stage of construction is tentatively expected to be completed by fall 2006. Many of the Muslims who attend Masjid Al-Islam are converts to the faith."
