On June 18, 2003 The Express-Times reported that New Jersey "Hindu leaders say their religious base is growing in the Lehigh Valley, and they want the township to support them while they try to accommodate the growth... representatives from the Hindu Temple Society... told township supervisors Tuesday night they want to expand their building by adding a classroom and a library. They also told supervisors they want to expand the parking lot outside the temple... Standing in the way of the expansions are several zoning laws. The society would need variances on the laws if they wanted to go ahead with the expansion, said [William G. Malkames, the attorney representing the society]... They're hoping that the supervisors would support them with their application for the variances or 'at least not oppose the application' if it went before the township's zoning board, Malkames said."
