More than 1,000 people celebrated the completion of one of the largest Hindu temples in the world in Maple Grove Sunday.
It started as the dream of just a few people more than 20 years ago. They wanted to build a temple where Hindus from across the region could gather and celebrate. Sunday that dream finally became reality.
"Today is unbelievable. we've been waiting for this for years," said Shashi Gupta of St. Paul.
There are between 25,000 and 30,000 Hindus living in the Midwest. Many of them traveled to Maple Grove Sunday to celebrate their local dieties under one roof as the temple officially opened its doors.
