On May 5, 2003 Newsday reported that "tradition holds that, when building a new Greek Orthodox church, a small stone is to be placed in the earth before construction can begin. And with great pomp and gravitas, that's just what Archbishop Demetrios, the spiritual leader of all Greek Orthodox Christians in the United States, did in Brookville yesterday... [It was part of] the groundbreaking for the new Church of the Resurrection, tentatively scheduled to open in about 14 months at Route 107 and Northern Boulevard. The building, a Byzantine-style church with room for 350 worshipers, will be the new, larger building for the congregation that has called nearby Glen Cove home since its founding in 1976."
