Neighbours of Sikh temples in Brantford and Kitchener are surprised at vociferous opposition to a place of worship proposed for the Royal City’s growing south side.

“That’s a shame. It really is,” said Linda Leigh, a prominent member of another religious instituti on two doors down from the Brantford Sikh Association’s temple on Park Road North, a busy north-south artery bisecting a commercial-residential mix.

“I’ve never heard of any opposition,” said Leigh, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

“I think they’re well integrated into the community,” she said. “I think they’re good neighbours.”

The blue-and-white, three-domed Brantford temple is bookended by the Hellenic Community Centre and Brantford Gymnastics Academy. Across the street is the high-energy Briar Park subdivision, a mix of single-detached homes, small apartment units and semi-detached houses and bustling neighbourhood streets.
