On September 7, 2005 Newindpress.com/UNI reported, "Hindu and Muslim leaders met on Tuesday in the first-ever post-Independence Assembly aimed to encourage interfaith understanding and trust and to reaffirm their commitment to India's pluralistic social traditions. The leaders agreed to resolve their disputes through dialogue in an attempt to prevent their differences from exploding into violent riots. At the three-hour meeting, convened by the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chief Tarlochan Singh here, Rishikesh's Permarth Ashram head Swami Chidanand Saraswati vowed not to allow religion to become a tool to wedge communities apart. The leaders, including All India Personal Law Board vice-president Maulana Syed Kalba-e-Sadiq, pledged to pursue dialogue as a key to resolve local issues facing both, Hindu and Muslim communities."
