On January 19, 2004 Aftenposten reported, "Hundreds of women marched through the streets of Oslo over the weekend, pleading their case for religious tolerance and their use of head-coverings at work and school. 'We in fact choose to wear thehijab ourselves,' many claimed. The demonstration came in the wake of a new French law banning the display of religiously inspired symbols in public places. It also follows a celebrated case in Norway, in which a young Muslim woman was ordered to remove her head covering while working in a local furniture store."
