After President Obama gave a historic speech in Cairo addressing Muslims around the world, a local synagogue opened its doors to an unlikely prayer group in the spirit of peace.

It's Friday afternoon and time for Muslims to pray but what was special about one local service was that it took place in a synagogue instead of a mosque.

"We're working together and that's a sign of the times," said Aamer Arshad.

It's a relationship that's unexpected, but two leaders from different faiths have decided to bridge a divide many people think couldn't happen. The interfaith service was held at the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation in Reston.

"We think it's important to promote understanding between faiths," said Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk.

The two congregations share the same space not only for convenience, but also to learn about each other and to work together.

Nabilah Haque stopped by from work. "I think sometimes they might be a little bit surprised. It's a nice way to say we do have interfaith cooperation," she said.

The groups are an example of President Obama's speech in Cairo, encouraging people of different faiths to understand one another.
