On March 5, 2006 The Sun News reported, "Muslim women on the Grand Strand want to connect with women of all faiths to build acceptance and shed stereotypes. The women held the first Islamic Sisters Halaqa, or Circle, on Saturday - an invitation for all to join together to talk and pray - and discussed the fear that some have toward them because of their religion and the dismay they feel about world events... Saib, who has lived on the Grand Strand for eight years, remembers feeling shunned by friends after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. She said communication is the only way to overcome the stereotypes and separate radicals from true Islam... The women meet now in a small space in Surfside Beach, but they have purchased land to build a mosque in Longs."
