On March 11, 2005 the World Peace Herald reported, "Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Friday appointed a Muslim woman her senior adviser on U.N. reforms. Shirin Tahir-Kheli is a U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin. She will serve as the secretary's senior advisor and chief interlocutor on United Nations reform, the State Department announced Friday. Tahir-Kheli will report directly to the secretary of state and engage the UN Secretary General and Secretariat on UN reform efforts. She will coordinate within the State Department and interagency community the U.S. government's positions on UN reform."
