On August 26, 2002 the Muslim Public Affairs Council issued a press release stating that "the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is sponsoring a quilt-making project in [memory] of the victims of September 11... Members of the media are invited to document the construction of the quilt this Saturday, August 31, 2002, at the Islamic Center of Southern California [in Los Angeles] starting at 10:00 A.M... The first presentation of the completed quilt will be at the Islamic Center of Southern California on September 8, 2002, during MPAC's community recognition awards... [and] the quilt will be presented on September 11, 2002, at Ground Zero."
