On May 29, 2004 the Chicago Tribune reported, "A Chicago police officer who is a Muslim and Palestinian-American alleged in a federal lawsuit Friday that he had been repeatedly ridiculed and discriminated against by officers and superiors because of his heritage and religion. The suit by Nail Majid, an officer since November 1999, said the discrimination increased dramatically after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Majid, a tactical officer in the Wentworth District beginning in April 2001, said the hostility grew so bad he feared for his safety at work because he was skeptical other officers would back him up in potentially life-threatening situations."
