The recent Third Assembly of the Asian Muslim Action Network (AMAN) was devoted mostly to the first International Interfaith Peace Forum, an initiative the network is committed to continue.

The first day of the Nov. 15-18 assembly, held at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta, was focused on matters related to AMAN, an organization founded in 1990. The rest of the time was devoted to the interfaith forum.

The assembly, with the theme "Reform and Resistance in the Quest for Peace," drew about 300 Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu, Muslim and Protestant participants, 180 of them from outside Indonesia. They participated in mini-workshops on topics such as the global economy, roles of civil society in the Muslim world, Islamic feminism, Asian minorities, Asian youth and interfaith dialogue.

Amany Lubis, head of the organizing committee, told UCA News the invitation to attend the assembly was open and they did not ask the participants to identify their religion during registration, so no breakdown of the number of participants by religion is available.
