On June 29, 2003 News 14 Carolina reported that "Muslim leaders sat down, and broke bread with elected officials. It was all part of the Meet and Greet, at the Islamic Center of Charlotte. Organizers said they wanted to get help for what they call discrimination, and hate crimes. Most have happened since September 11th... While guests tasted food from the Middle East, Muslim leaders and elected officials talked about ways to improve relationships. This was the first event of its kind, here."
