On October 1, 2003 The New York Times reported that "10 Muslim men...filed a lawsuit yesterday against their employer, the Plaza Hotel, with the help of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The suit, filed in Federal District Court in Manhattan, says the workers suffered "severe and pervasive harassment" in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

According to the men's complaint, their supervisors at the hotel on Central Park South in Manhattan subjected them to unwarranted scrutiny and criticism, condemning them personally for the attacks and for causing "all the problems in the world."

The federal commission filed the complaint on behalf of a class of employees represented by the 10 men. Officials with the commission said the Plaza, and its operator, Fairmont Hotel and Resorts Inc., did not respond adequately to the men's plea for help and did little to prevent continued harassment."
