On October 25, 2002 Muslim Public Affairs Council reported that "America has lost another great public servant, Senator Paul Wellstone (Democrat--Minnesota), who died in a plane crash today along with his wife, Sheila, his daugther, Marcia, and several members of his campaign staff. Senator Wellstone was a friend of the American Muslim community and a personal friend of MPAC's former National Director, the late Hesham Reda, who had also resided in Minnesota. Senator Wellstone was well-known at the Islamic Center of Minneapolis, where he continuously demonstrated support for its members, particularly when it was targeted by hate groups in the area. Senator Wellstone wrote the forward to MPAC's Counterterrorism Policy Position Paper in 1999."
