On February 3, 2003 the Sun and Weekly Hearld reported that "across Florida and around the world, people of many faiths offered prayers Sunday for the victims of a space tragedy that transcends doctrines... It would be hard to assemble a more diverse group: five men, two women; five white, one black, one East Indian; five U.S.-born, one Israeli and one a native of India... They also represented several of the world's great religions. Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut, was a Jew. Kalpana Chawla, a U.S. citizen born in India, was a Hindu. Laurel Clark was a Unitarian. Michael Anderson attended a Jesuit school and college; other Christian denominations were also represented on the crew."
