On September 16, 2005 Community Newswire reported, "A centre in Derby dedicated to promoting understanding between people of different faiths has today urged people from across the city to attend an open day. The Multi-Faith Centre at Derby University is staging its second open day tomorrow, September 17, and is calling on all sectors of the local community to join in. Organisers behind the open day, which runs between 11am and 3pm, have arranged a number of events including an Indian dance display, a Sikh Gatka performance, readings from different faiths, a Taekwon Do demonstration and songs from the Baha'i Faith. There will also be a number of meditation workshops being held at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. The Multi-Faith Centre is the first purpose built centre of its kind in the UK and since opening in 2004 it has staged a number of high profile events including a Tabla concert with world renowned artists Pandit Sharda Sahai and Ustad Surjit Singh."
