On July 20, 2006 The Sun reported, "Prison kitchens are being ordered to go to extraordinary lengths to prepare food properly for Muslim inmates. Not enough is done to meet the needs of the 7,000 Muslim prisoners, claims a report by MPs. The dossier says new fridges should be provided so halal meat can be stored separately. Any risk of contamination with other food should be avoided. Some Muslim inmates are refusing halal meat — which is taken from animals that have been slaughtered in a specific way — because they do not trust the prison cooks preparing it. The MPs hit out at the 25 percent of prisons that cannot store halal separately from the other meats."
