On September 22, 2001, The New York Times featured the story, "Abhorring Terror at an Ohio Mosque." The article reviewed some of the aftermath of the terror attacks, including the recent incident at the Islamic Center of Cleveland, when a man drove his car into the building. "The police arrested the driver, who was hospitalized with injuries from the crash. What did the mosque's Muslims do? They prayed for the man, said Imam Fawaz Damra, a spiritual leader at the mosque. And a few days later, the imam said, he and another leader at the mosque asked the police if they could visit the man to tell him the community forgave him."
